Random Morning Thoughts II

Without a doubt, the biggest story here in the D.C. area this summer will be the fight over whoever it is that President Bush nominates to the Supreme Court. The SCOTUS Nomination Blog has been on this story since O’Connor announced her resignation and will no doubt remain an essential source for anyone interested in the first Supreme Court nomination in 11 years.

Speaking of which, it seems to me that there is something wrong with the idea that the makeup of the Supreme Court hasn’t changed since Pres. Clinton nominated Stephen Breyer in 1994. There was alot of talk during the early 90’s about the lack of turnover in Congress in general and the House of Representatives specifically. The idea was that the longer a Congressman serves, the less responsive he or she becomes to the people. The lack of turnover on the Supreme Court is, from this point of view, even more egregious.

Just a thought…….
