Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

At The Break

Its a strange thing to see given how the seasons have gone for the past 7 years or so, but The New York Yankees are in third place in the American League East, behind (granted by only 2.5 games) the Baltimore Orioles and the hated Boston Red Sox. Frankly, given the way they’ve been playing, I’m not even sure the Yankees deserve to be only 2.5 games out of 1st place at the All-Star Break.

I guess its still possible that the Yanks will pull something out of their hat during the second half of the season. The inevitable collapse of the Orioles will give them that opportunity but I’m not sure it will be enough to win the division. That leaves only a hope for the AL Wild-Card. To be honest, though, my passion has waned a little bit this season as I’ve seen a team full of multi-millionaires play like they were the Milwaukee Brewers.

On the bright side, though, my hometown Washington Nationals are in first place in the NL East. The sheer improbability of this happening makes me want to pay more attention to this team during the second half of the season.
