Weekend Adventure Part 2

by @ 9:32 am on July 11, 2005.

As usual, I’m having trouble getting into the groove of things again on Monday morning. Coming off of a four-day week last week is part of it, but the biggest part is the fact that I had a really great weekend. Following up on Saturday’s trek through Northern Virginia, yesterday we stayed close to home and did something I haven’t done very much in the time I’ve lived here — played tourist.

I didn’t mention this yesterday, but the cause for all this travelling is the fact that my wife’s friend from college was in town for the weekend, although the two of us have been known to travel on our own. After the two of them returned from a morning shopping trip to our local Ikea (leaving me at home with the dog and the blog), we headed over to Arlington National Cemetary. I hadn’t been here since I took a trip to the D.C. area as an 11 or 12 year old kid so it was almost like a new experience for me. We watched the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns, a ceremony not to be missed if you get the chance to see it, and walked the more well-known areas of the cemetary before calling it a day. Afterwords, we headed over to Old Town Alexandria for dinner. Before heading home, we drove back into the District to see the monuments by night. Again, a sight not to be missed.

All in all it was a fun-filled, if somewhat exhausting, weekend. Now its back to work.
