Wine Blogging

Last night we had dinner at the Alexandria Chart House on the Potomac River waterfront in Old Town Alexandria. A good restaurant if you like seafood, and a great restaurant if you’re lucky enough to be able to sit outside on a spectacular evening like the one we had yesterday.

But I’m not here to write a restaurant review……..

Its become a habit of mine lately to look over a restaurant’s wine list even if I’m not inclined to order a glass, or bottle, of wine with dinner. More often than not, the wine list correlates pretty well with the quality of the food and service. Anyway, I was doing this when we sat down at the bar waiting for the table and noticed that, among other high quality wines, they listed Kunde Estate Winery’s 2001 Merlot. This was the first time I’d seen this particular wine on a list since my now-wife and I first found it and fell in love with it on a date in August 2003. It ended up being the impetus for our trip to the Napa Valley in May 2004 and I bought a case of the Merlot while we were out there. It is a very special wine for both of us and one that, in my opinion, is surpassed only by some of the best estate wines from other wineries.

Did I drink any Kunde last night ? No, I had my usual Gin & Tonic, but it was nice to see it on the list.

Update: Here’s a direct link to information about the 2001 Merlot.
