Well, all the fears about yesterday’s shutdown of a portion of the Beltway were apparently unfoudned. Kellie and I were driving North on I-95 last night just before the area where the detour began and there was no noticeable effect on traffic. Even better, it turns out that the project finished a day ahead of schedule. This will be good news for getting around today, and for tomorrow’s rush hour.
We spent the better part of yesterday running around shopping and taking care of errands. Kellie will be out of town for 2 weeks starting tomorrow for training so there was some work-related shopping that needed to be done. Then, we had to go out and get a dog dish because our six month old puppy has pretty much mutilated the plastic food dish we got him in March. The new one is ceramic so he should be okay with it. Yesterday afternoon, Comcast came by and got our high speed Internet access set up. Those who know me are probably surprised that we didn’t have it sooner, but it just hasn’t been a priority. Comcast has a great deal going right now, though, so it was a good time to sign up.
While we were out, I hung out at Borders while Kellie shopped for shoes. I ended up finding and buying two books I’ve been trying to find for awhile: The Guns of The South and How Few Remain, both by Harry Turtledove. Both books are alternate history/science fiction stories based on the premise that the South won the Civil War. Guns of the South is a stand-alone book, while How Few Remain is the first in a multi-book series that takes the premise and expands it to World War One and beyond. I’m about three chapters in to Guns of the South and enjoying it immensely.
We’ve got some more shopping to do this morning and then I have to go into work for a few hours today. We’ve got a big trial coming up on Tuesday and there’s work to be done, unfortunately.
