Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Now The Bad News

by @ 11:44 am on August 3, 2005.

14 Marines were killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq today. This follows the deaths of six Marines in an attack on Monday and brings the total U.S. deaths in Iraq to over 1,800. Worse, it seems that both the Marines killed today and those killed on Monday were part of the same unit based out of Brook Park, Ohio.

The pointlessness of sending young Americans to Iraq only to have them blown up by terrorists is becoming apparent. I am not among those who believe that we should cut and run from Iraq. I think that would be far more dangerous at this point than staying. The one thing I’m not seeing right now, though, is an exit strategy or any idea of how long it will be before the majority of American troops can come home.

Update: I guess I shouldn’t expect an exit strategy anytime soon: President Bush rejects the idea of setting a withdrawal date.
