I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Common Sense From Hollywood

by @ 7:47 am on August 4, 2005.

I’m usually one of those people who gets annoyed when a celebrity decides its time to share their political opinions with the rest of the world. Basically, I don’t think that Sean Penn’s opinion about the War in Iraq is any more informed than mine is, possibly even less informed, and the fact that he’s a celebrity doesn’t give his opinion any more value. That said, it is nice to see a celebrity who departs from the typical leftist, socialist rhetoric that comes from Hollywood, only because its so rare to see.

The latest example comes, of all places, from Minnie Driver who had this to say about foreign aid:

“People think more aid will help, but it won’t,” said Ms. Driver, an actress who is working on her second music CD. “Trade is the surest way of decreasing the savage amount of poverty in our world. These countries have got to be able to trade fairly.”

Well said.
