Summer Passing By

Its hard to believe that Labor Day Weekend is only two weeks away and that the summer will be, for all purposes, completely finished. Its hard not to sound redundant when asking a question like this, but where the heck did the summer go ?

This weekend was a little less active than others have been, but active nonetheless. Kellie and I spent most of Saturday afternoon relaxing at home, which gave me time to finish The Guns of the South. I’ll have more to say about the book in later posts. Saturday evening, we drove into the District to have dinner with my Cousins Sue and Terri, who were in town for a Doll and Teddy Bear Show at a local hotel. We ate in Adams-Morgan, an area of D.C. I really haven’t spent much time in, and then I played chauffeur/tour guide as we took a look at the monuments at night, which is always a sight to see.

Yesterday was another lazy, relaxing day. I spent the afternoon getting to work on setting up the second computer I had brought home from my parents house in New Jersey. I got the KVM switch working in no time, but haven’t completely figured out the networking side of things. After several attempts, I’ve given up for the moment, turned of file and print sharing on both computers for security reasons, and will try again tonight or this weekend.

Last night, we went out to dinner at the local Cheeseburger in Paradise. This place had just opened in June and Kellie and I were both interested in checking it out because of the Jimmy Buffett connection. We tried stopping by there one Saturday a month or so ago but the line was out the door and there was a 45 minute wait so we passed it by. Yesterday, there was no wait at all, partially because we arrived early and also probably due to the fact that the novelty factor had worn off. The food was good and the atmosphere was cool, but the service left something to be desired. I’m not saying that I was expecting Morton’s-level service for an $ 8.00 cheeseburger, but I was expecting something a little more than what we got. Kellie and both agreed that, now that we’d gotten it out of our system, we probably would not be going back any time soon.

The upcoming week should be a fairly easy one at the office. The bosses are on vacation so I’m chief cook and bottle washer for the week. That, combined with the fact that its late August in Washington, means that this promises to be a pretty stress-free week.
