Katrina Aftermath XVII — “The Results Are Not Acceptable”

by @ 1:50 pm on September 2, 2005.

President Bush is touring the shattered Gulf Coast today

President Bush, facing blistering criticism for his administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina, said Friday “the results are not acceptable.” He spoke on the White House grounds and then flew to the Gulf Coast, with his first stop in Mobile, Ala., one of three stops in the region.

Not acceptable is an understatement. That the authorities allowed the situation in New Orleans especially to get to the point that it is today is simply unacceptable. I wrote two days ago about the political consequences of higher gas prices resulting from Katrina, but it may be more than high gas prices that bring political consequences.

President Bush won high marks for his response to 9/11. Now he faces a new test. Remember the days after 9/11 ? It wasn’t really until the Friday after it happened when President Bush visited Ground Zero and made that speech with the bullhorn in front of the fireman that things started turning around.

He, heck the whole country, needs a moment like that today.
