Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Katrina — The Hollywood Response

by @ 9:23 am on September 3, 2005.

After reading this article in this morning’s Washington Post, I’m glad I didn’t watch the telethon on NBC last night.

West: I hate the way they portray us in the media. You see a black family, it says, “They’re looting.” You see a white family, it says, “They’re looking for food.” And, you know, it’s been five days [waiting for federal help] because most of the people are black.

Mr. West, here’s the real story behind the photographs in question. Now, shut your pie hole.

Apparently, Kayne West isn’t the only one going over the deep end:

It is reported that black hurricane victims in New Orleans have begun eating corpses to survive. Four days after the storm, thousands of blacks in New Orleans are dying like dogs. No-one has come to help them.

Being reported where ? Not by any credible news source I’ve seen.

I suppose it was inveitable that this would turn into a political controversy. Everything in this country does, even 9/11. Somewhere out there, there is probably someone who believes that Hurricane Katrina was engineered by the Bush family, the Saudi’s and Halliburton as part of a scheme to increase the price of oil and gasoline.

Update @ 10:18am: Jesse Jackson blames New Orleans deaths on racism

Racism is partly to blame for the deadly aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the Rev. Jesse Jackson said, calling President Bush’s response to the disaster “incompetent.”

Jackson questioned why Bush has not named blacks to top positions in the federal response to the disaster, particularly when the majority of victims remaining stranded in New Orleans are black: “How can blacks be locked out of the leadership, and trapped in the suffering?”

Since when does the color of the rescuer have anything to do with anything ?
