Michelle Malkin puts it nicely, not another damned commission.
A “bi-partisan commission”is exactly what Senator Hillary Clinton is calling for. As Michelle Malkin points out, a 9/11 style commission is exactly what we don’t need in this case.
[A] Katrina Commission modeled after the 9/11 Commission is a recipe for more disaster and dissembling.
Do we really need another group of staunch Democrats and milquetoast Republicans appointed to furrow their brows and pull their chins and stab their fingers in the air on cue for weeks on end while they find 50 different ways to tell us “We are not prepared?”
Have you forgotten the spectacle of 9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey hectoring witnesses, whining about his time being “eaten up,” and yukking it up on Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show” as he served on the federal panel investigating the deadliest enemy attack on American soil?
Or the stunning arrogance of 9/11 Commission co-chair Tom Kean, who carped that “people ought to stay out of our business” when challenged on Gorelick’s clear conflicts of interest in investigating the barriers to communication between law enforcement and intelligence agencies?
Or, have we forgotten about the Able Danger fiasco and fact that information indicating that Army Intelligence officers were trying to tell the FBI about Mohammed Atta one year before he flew a plane into the World Trade Center ?
No, a Katrina Commission would just be another excuse for political posturing.
And that’s exactly what this is, political posturing by Sen. Clinton. The waters have barely receded from New Orleans and she is already trying to find a way to use this disaster to boost her chances in the 2008 Presidential race. I’d call it despicable, but coming from a Clinton its pretty typical.
