Another Sunday, and another end to a busy weekend of family, food, and fun.
Kellie’s parents were in town this weekend from Ohio and, as is always the case when this group gets together, a good time was had by all. Friday night consisted of a quiet evening spent at home, on the deck with burgers, sides, and, of course, a few bottles of wine. In this case, it was three very good bottles from wineries that were new-to-us. First there was the 2001 Cherryblock Cabernet Sauvignon which we had received as a wedding gift. Then, there was 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon from Nickel & Nickel. Finally, there was the Merryvale Cabernet Sauvignon. Each of these wines was great in its own way, but I’d have to say that I enjoyed the Nickel & Nickel the most.
Yesterday was a whirlwind of a day. We started out with a quick driving tour of the area around our home since this was the first time my in-laws had been here. Then we drove out to the rural parts of Northern Virginia for a brief winery tour. First we stopped at Lindent Vinyards in Linden, Virginia and then went to Mediterranean Cellars in Warrenton, Virginia. Kellie and I had been to both wineries before and enjoyed both of them, but on the second visit to each we now both agree that we are more likely to return to Linden than to Mediterranean in the future. Both in terms of the atmosphere and the quality of the wines, Linden is simply better.
After this all-to-brief tour of the Virginia countryide, aided surprisingly well by the GPS navigation system in my father-in-law’s car, we headed back toward the city and ended up walking part of the art festival being held in Alexandria this weekend. We had dinner at Perrys in Adams Morgan, a restaurant in Adams Morgan that Kellie and I had been trying to get to for most of the summer. This place is definately on the list of places to go back to…..soon.
After dinner, we headed home, opened another bottle of wine, and watched the OSU-Texas game. As I’ve already written, the results were disappointing.
As Kellie and I said to each other as they drove away this morning, the weekend was fun , but went by way too fast.
