Where do I begin ?
The trip to The Homestead was, like many of the gatherings with Kellie’s family, a whirlwind filled with fun, family, food, and a not insubstantial amount of wine. The only bad thing about it was that it ended far too quickly. Kellie and I had to leave late in the afternoon on Tuesday because I had to be back in town this morning for a trial which turned out to be a waste of time — not only didn’t the Defendant appear but I found out this morning that the Defendant’s attorney had lost his license to practice law in Virginia about a month and a half ago. The Defendant happens to be a company that the attorney owns and operates. So, there was no chance anyone was going to show up today. Thanks for wasting my time counsellor.
Sunday we had a fabulous dinner courtesy of Kellie’s brother Jake and spent the evening watching The Longest Yard projected onto the garage door — yes, I said the garage door. Except for the fact that it was freezing cold by the time the movie was over, it was a fun time.
On Monday, everyone did their own thing. Kellie and joined her Mom on a falconry expedition that took us deep into the woods outside The Homestead, along with a guide and a Harris Hawk. I learned more about birds of prey in that two hour time than I probably had known before then. Plenty of photos were taken, which I’ll share later in the week.
On Tuesday, we toured the Jefferson Pools in Warm Springs, Virginia and hung out for several hours at the hotel pool before heading back to the house to pack and head home.
As always, it was too short a vacation but it was good to see everyone again. As things stand right now, it looks like Kellie’s parents will be joining us for Thanksgiving next month and we will all be together for Christmas in Cleveland.
