Does someone have it in for Condolezza Rice ?

First, there was the Eugene Robinson column in the Washington Post that I wrote about yesterday.

Today, via Michelle Malkin, comes news about an obviously altered photo of Rice that appears in this USA Today piece.

Here’s the original photo:

And here’s the USA Today version:

Look’s like someone at Gannett got a little to creative with Photoshop.

Steve Verdon has more to say about this over at Outside The Beltway

Update: USA Today has admitted the photo was doctored and issued this statement

Editor’s note: The photo of Condoleezza Rice that originally accompanied this story was altered in a manner that did not meet USA TODAY’s editorial standards. The photo has been replaced by a properly adjusted copy. Photos published online are routinely cropped for size and adjusted for brightness and sharpness to optimize their appearance. In this case, after sharpening the photo for clarity, the editor brightened a portion of Rice’s face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance. This resulted in a distortion of the original not in keeping with our editorial standards.

One doubts they would’ve done this if they hadn’t been caught.
