Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Does This Mean Blogging Won’t Be Cool Anymore ?

by @ 5:02 pm on October 27, 2005.

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert has his own blog.

The first entry, titled Welcome To My Blog is up today and I’m really not sure what to say about it.

This is Denny Hastert and welcome to my blog. This is new to me. I can?t say I?m much of a techie. I guess you could say my office is teaching the old guy new trcks. But I?m excited. This is the future. And it is a new way for us to get our message out.

Bill Frist said the girls would think I’m cool if I had my own blog. God I hope he’s right.

The internet is changing the way we share information.

Really ? The internet is changing things ? Wow, I’m glad I found a ground breaking blog like this one to keep me informed.

My office has been talking a lot about some of the conversations going on in blogosphere

My aides keeping telling me about all these people in pajamas who think we politicians should actually be held accountable for our actions.

Hastert then goes on the talk about Hurricane Katrina and the price of gas, which leads to a discussion of the oil companies.

This is America. And Republicans don?t believe in punishing success. But what are these oil companies doing to bring down the cost of oil and natural gas? They haven’t built a refinery here in America since the 1970’s. They’ve built refineries overseas, but nothing here at home

Gee Speaker Hastert, could that be because government regulation has made it impossible for new refineries to be built. Do you really think that Exxon, Texaco, et al deliberately have not built a refinery in the past 35 years ? Maybe if the government you are a part of got out of the way, things would change.

Well, there you have it folks. I?ve outlined some of our priorities: fiscal responsibility and energy. I?m going to keep updating this from time to time.

It?s not that bad. Looks like this old guy can still learn a thing or two. Until next time . .

I have a feeling this blog will be a source of amusement for some time to come, or at least until the GOP completely blows it and loses control of Congress. I just wonder how long it will be before he starts posting pictures of his dog.
