Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Great Thursday Reading

by @ 6:32 am on November 3, 2005.

A few things I’ve found in early morning web surfing that are worth checking out.

I woke up this morning and read this latest absurd rant from Richard Cohen on the war in Iraq, and prepared to rip it apart, when I found that Stephen Green had done my work for me, and far better than I could. As Steve says, read the whole thing.

Over at the Wall Street Journal, Francis Fukuyama writes about the one year anniversary of the murder of Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh by Muslim terrorists. So much for the end of history, eh Francis ?

Last week, Peggy Noonan wrote about what she sees as the depressing state of America today. This week, Glenn Reynolds counters that while the elites may be giving up on their country, regular Americans are picking up the slack.

Finally Don Surber talks about news that Michael Moore, Barbra Streisand, and Ralph Nader may be hypocrites after all. Shocking I tell, you, just shocking.

Update @ lunchtime: In addition to the post above, Don’s column in the Charleston Daily Mail is also up today. Good reading.

Over at Winds of Change, Cicero asks whether November 2005 will turn out to be a turning point similar to March 1939. Read it to find out what he means.

Finally, Will Collier at Vodapundit point to two pieces of required reading, one of which is particularly relevant to current events in Paris.
