Countdown To The Holidays

by @ 12:00 pm on November 21, 2005. Filed under Holiday Time

For the past several years, the local “soft rock” radio station here in the Washington, DC area has played nothing but Christmas………excuse me holiday………..music during the time period from Thanksgiving to Christmas. This year, I noticed that it started this weekend, earlier than I’m pretty sure it has in the past year. This is just the latest reflection of the fact that the “Christmas season” is starting earlier and earlier. Most stores have their Christmas displays up as soon as Halloween is over, and Christmas-themed commercials start on television well before that. I don’t think you don’t have to be a Scrooge to think that this is a bit of overkill. I know that the holiday season is make-or-break time for most retailers, but that doesn’t mean that have to force us to start thinking about Christmas before the leaves have fallen off the trees.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the day.

In other news, Kellie and I spent much of the weekend running around getting ready for Thanksgiving. Kellie’s parents will be coming in to town on Wednesday, and we are both looking forward to that. They will also be bringing their two dogs, Lhasa Apso’s like Riley, so it promises to be a very interesting weekend.
