The Day After The Day After

No I haven’t fully recovered from the turkey hangover yet, but I’m getting there. In the meantime, Kellie, Riley, and I are recovering from a truly great weekend spent with family. Where to begin, where to begin…….

Kellie’s parent arrived a little bit after I made it home from work on Wednesday afternoon and, after an hour or so that pretty much consisted of the dogs getting to know each other, settled down for a cozy evening in with a few pizza’s from Vocelli’s and a bottle of Nickel & Nickel 2002 Tench Vineyard Cabrnet Sauvignon — perhaps a wine that deserves better than pizza, but what the heck.

We spent Turkey Day at home all day cooking and hanging out and, of course, drinking more fine wine. In this case a 1997 Beauliu Vineyard Georges de Latour Private Reserve and a 2000 Cardinale, both of which were, of course, fabulous. And, no, I didn’t know these two wines would be on the table Thursday when I made this list on Wednesday.

Yesterday, we spent the day exploring Georgetown and then ended up spending several hours hanging out in Round Robin Bar, located two blocks from the White House at the historic Willard Hotel, enjoying a few drinks and smoking a cigar or two, before heading to dinner at Morton’s. As always when this group gets together, a fun time was had by all.

And how did the dogs do ? By the end of the weekend, they all seemed to be getting along — which is a good things considering they’ll all see each other again at Christmas.

Now, if you don’t mind, I’ll be turning to my trusty friends at Google to figure out precisely how you cure a turkey hangover.

  1. [...] It was another great Thanksgiving here at the Mataconis homestead. Thursday was a just a great day of fun, family, and some great food and memories. Yesterday, we spent the day out and about mostly — not shopping, but sightseeing (something we seem to do often when out-of-town relatives visit). The highlights of the day were a visit to the Washington National Cathedral, which is simply just an amazing piece of architecture. After that, we spent several hours at the Off The Record Bar at the Hay-Adams Hotel. Those of you noticing a trend from last year’s post-Thanksgiving adventure would be correct.   [link] [...]
