The Fiesta Bowl matchup was announced last night and, as had been anticipated all week, it will be the Ohio State Buckeyes returning to the Fiesta Bowl, site of their national championship victory over Miami in 2003, to face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Brad Warbianny is probably right that the Irish don’t really deserve to go to the Fiesta Bowl, but from, looking at it from the perspective of the Fiesta Bowl organizers it makes perfect sense. Notre Dame has a national following and Buckeye Nation is known for following its team anywhere and spending well when they do. Which adds up to a bowl matchup that will probably be second only to the USC-Texas championship game in hype.
