Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Carnival Of The Magnolias V

by @ Tuesday, December 20th, 2005. Filed under General

Good morning and welcome to the fifth Carnival of the Magnolias, the carnival of the Southern Blog Federation, a group of bloggers residing in the Southern U.S. The purpose of the carnival is pretty simple:
The purpose of this carnival is to highlight the best and brightest posts of the week written by southern bloggers [...]

Blogger Block

by @ Monday, December 19th, 2005. Filed under General

As Stephen Green said in his post last night, man I’ve got nothin’.
Perhaps its pre-holiday fatigue. Perhaps its blogger’s fatigue. Whatever it is, I sat in front of the computer this morning to write something and came up with……bupkus.
And to add to that, technical difficulties have delayed the Carnival of the Magnolias until sometime this [...]

Light Sunday Blogging Note

by @ Sunday, December 18th, 2005. Filed under General

Apologies once again, but it appears that this may be all that I’ll be producing today.
After recovering from a great party over at a neighbor’s house last night, Kellie and I spent the better part of today completing Christmas shopping, mostly stuff I still need to buy.
I am also working on pulling together this week’s [...]

So Long Leo

by @ Saturday, December 17th, 2005. Filed under General

I’ve been watching The West Wing since Season 1 and one of my favorite characters has always been Leo McGarry, who first served as Chief of Staff to President Josiah Bartlett and, in a move I still consider improbable, was nominated to be the Vice-Presidential nominee to Jimmy Smitt’s Matt Santos. I’ve also been [...]

Big Brother Is Watching You

by @ Saturday, December 17th, 2005. Filed under General

Much has been written in the past twenty-four hours about yesterday’s report that the NSA was spying on Americans in the United States in the wake of the September 11th attacks, activity which President Bush admitted today he personally authorized.
Michelle Malkin seems to be leading the group of conservative bloggers who are more outraged over [...]

Libertarian Democrats ?

by @ Saturday, December 17th, 2005. Filed under General

David Friedman suggests that the Democratic Party could find electoral success in trying to steal the votes of libertarian-leaning Republicans away from the GOP.
As Friedman points out, libertarian Republicans and the Democratic Party find themselves in equally unfortunate positions.
Libertarians still tend to identify with the Republican party. Save for historical reasons, it is [...]

Not Your Typical Friday

by @ Friday, December 16th, 2005. Filed under General

Yesterday’s snow/ice storm may have been a dud, but the rain we got froze overnight, which made the road’s an utter disaster this morning. My commute from our home to the Prince William County Courthouse in Manassas normally takes about 25-30 minutes. Today, it took almost an hour and a half.
The road’s are fine [...]

Absolutely Required Reading

by @ Thursday, December 15th, 2005. Filed under General

Via Eric’s Grumbles comes news that David Friedman, currently of Santa Clara University Law School and previously of the University of Chicago Law School, has started his own blog.
I also learned recently that Reason columnist Cathy Young has a blog as well.
You can bet I’ll be adding both to the blogroll soon.

Disaster In The Making

by @ Thursday, December 15th, 2005. Filed under General

Well, not really, but another winter storm is set to hit the D.C. area today
Fellow Washingtonians, as I said last week, abandon your cars now.

More Additions To The Blogroll

by @ Wednesday, December 14th, 2005. Filed under General

I’ve added several more blogs that I read on a regular basis to the blogroll as of this morning.
Capital Freedom is a fellow member of Life, Liberty & Property where you’ll find some excellent, stright-forward writing on economic and political freedom. I’ve also added fellow LLP’ers Jacqueline Mackie Paisley Passey and Liberty Corner
Cato Unbound is [...]
