I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Sometimes, I Love D.C.

One of the best things about living so close to the nation’s capitol has been the constant entertainment provided by the District of Columbia’a pre-eminent politican, Marion Barry. Yep, that’s the same Marion Barry who was once Mayor and who immortalized the phrase “The b***h set me up” when he was caught smoking crack in a hotel room. Well, Marion made a comeback several years ago and now represents the 8th Ward on the D.C. City Council. Last night, he had an unfortunate encounter with two of his constituents.

WASHINGTON — Former District of Columbia Mayor Marion Barry was robbed at gunpoint at his apartment by some youths who had helped him carry his groceries.

Barry, who wasn’t injured in the Monday night robbery, said he gave the youths a couple of dollars for helping unload groceries from his car and they left. They returned, however, and after Barry let them into his Southeast apartment, they pointed a gun at his head and took his wallet, which contained cash and credit cards, Barry told WRC-TV.

“Obviously, I’m traumatized. To have a pistol cocked in your face is not something you cannot feel emotional about,” Barry said.

Perhaps these two youths took there example from the former Mayor who immortalized his image by smoking a crack pipe on a surveillance type broadcast nationwide.

As usual, though, Marion Barry continues to provide entertainment to those of us who observe politices here in the D.C. area as his statements today demonstrate.

The thieves apparently knew that Barry (D-Ward 8) was a longtime community leader, a fact that he said made the crime “kind of hurt” because he is well respected by so many people in the city. Barry was not injured in the holdup.

“There is a sort of an unwritten code in Washington, among the underworld and the hustlers and these other guys, that I am their friend,” Barry said at an afternoon news conference in which he described the robbery in detail. “I don’t advocate what they do. I advocate conditions to change what they do. I was a little hurt that this betrayal did happen

Apparently, the code of honor among theives has been broken.
