My commute into work this morning was a little slower than normal thanks to this:
At least one person is believed to be held hostage inside a Patriot Bank branch in the 8400 Block of Sudley Road in Prince William County.
A perimeter has been set up in the area of Sudley Road, Ashton Avenue and Godwin Drive, according to reports by WRC-TV.
Police have not been able to speak to anyone inside the bank, said Prince William police Sgt. Kim Chinnng. Information about the incident came from witnesses outside the bank.
Chinn said police believe at least one suspect and one hostage are inside the bank.
This is all unfolding about a mile from my office. Interesting to say the least.
Update: Well it appears things are back to normal:
One person is now in custody following an attempted bank robbery at a Patriot Bank branch in the 8400 Block of Sudley Road in Prince William County.
Okay, well maybe not completely over.
Prince William Police Chief Charlie T. Deane says the robbery occurred shortly after the Patriot Bank at 8402 Sudley Rd. opened at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Several suspects, dressed in black, entered the bank. A teller was tied up. Deane says he thinks the robbers managed to get away with cash.
Prince William County police quickly got on the scene. Deane says the Manassas police tried to stop the other suspects who were in a red Toyota. Those suspects ditched the car within a mile of the bank and fled on foot.
