The downloading of music has led to a generation of people who do not seriously appreciate songs or performances, according to research.
Easily accessed tunes mean many music lovers are no longer excited at discovering and playing unfamiliar work, said the University of Leicester.
With all due respect to these researchers, I must say this —- bullshit. I’ve been a consumer of digital music since the days of the original Napster and, if anything, the ability to access music so easily has expanded my musical horizons rather that restricting them. Even my recent Ipod acquisition has contributed to this as I’ve found that a purchase of one tune at ITunes will lead to a list of similar music that others have purchased that I might not have considered otherwise.
Then, there’s this quote:
With the advent of the internet and MP3 players, which play downloaded material, music has become a soundtrack to everyday life, rather than something life-changing and special, continued Dr North.
No, what has happened is that people are choosing what they want to listen to rather than letting elitists like Dr. North tell them what they should be listening to.
