I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Weekend Movie Reviews

Kellie and I rented two movies last night, and they couldn’t have been more different.

The first was Must Love Dogs, a romatic comedy starrting Diane Lane and John Cusack. As romantic comedies go, it was good, I guess. Quite honestly, there were times when it didn’t seem like there was much of a plot to the story at all. I’m glad I didn’t waste my money on this one at the theater.

The second movie was Crash starring, among others, Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillon, and Don Cheadle. Its difficult for me to put into words my reaction to this movie. The plot itself is actually a series of stories involving characters who, at various points during the 24 hour period that the movie covers, cross each others paths. The story itself is basically about racism and conflict in Los Angeles and is unrelenting in its portrayal of the stereotypical attitudes held by all of its characters regardless of race, gender, or ethnic origin. There are very few movies that I see that have a moment in them that just makes my heart stop; Crash had three such moments, all of them equally powerful. I won’t give them away, because it would spoil the plot completely. Suffice it to say that you won’t be disappointed in this one.
