I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Jack Bauer Is On Your iPod

by @ 9:19 am on May 9, 2006.

Big news from the iPod/iTunes world, and big news for 24 fans:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc.’s (AAPL.O) iTunes has started to sell episodes of shows from News Corp.’s (NWS.N) Fox television network, the latest major U.S. TV network to reach a deal with Apple’s Internet download service.

Shows including “24″ and “Prison Break,” as well as FX Network shows such as “The Shield,” were available on the download service on Tuesday morning, at $1.99 per episode.

For a show like 24, where missing one show means getting lost for the rest of the season, this is big news. I was hoping this would happen, and I’m glad it did. And its not just 24, you can also download episodes of Firefly and classic Fox shows like Buffy, The Vampire Slayer. Cool.

And I hardly think that its a coincidence that this announcement comes on Jack Bauer Appreciation Day.

What happened? Is your TiVo broken? :-)

    Brad,

At the risk of having my techno-geek credentials revoked, I must admit that we do not yet have a DVR setup at the Mataconis residence.

If you watch TV, it’s absolutely essential. As I’ve said before, when I moved and couldn’t have my DirecTV and TiVo, I basically stopped watching TV. I’ve only started again now that I built my own home DVR out of an old computer… Suddenly I can watch motorcycle racing again!

Imagine a world where you were no longer held to living your life by the schedule created by the networks. Where you can both go out to a late dinner and still see 24 when you return. All this, without having to either manually pull out a VHS tape and program your VCR, and without having to watch it on a tiny video iPod screen.

It’s a wonderful thought, isn’t it? It’s time to leave the Luddites behind, and join the 21st century. You won’t look back :-)

Thank you Brad for your words of wisdom to my husband!
