The End Of Music As We Know It

by @ 1:07 pm on May 29, 2006.

My buddy Raymond reminds me of something I’ve been meaning to blog about several times in the past week.

Apparently, Michael Bolton is back, and he’s singing Sinatra.

In addition to a sign that the end of the world is at hand, this is, I think, absolute proof that American popular music is now suffering in the hands of amateurs. It was bad enough when Rod Stewart decided to screech his way through some great American standards and then followed it up with not one, not two, but three sequel releases.. Now, we’ve got Michael Bolton trying to sing Sinatra. Why do we need to listen to these people attempt to re-create the work of Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald. Just go back and listen to the originals people. It doesn’t get any better than that, and never will.

If nothing else, this is proof Sinatra really is dead, because if he wasn’t he would’ve busted somebody’s head by now.
