Federal agencies will be open today as usual, but employees are able to work from home or come in late if the weather conditions are disrupting their commute.
However, the Internal Revenue Service headquarters building at 1111 Constitution Avenue NW is closed today because at least four feet of water had accumulated in the basement, a spokesman for the agency said.
The building houses about 2,400 employees, spokesman Terry L. Lemons said. Lemons said employees can call 866-743-5748, then press option 3, state code 32, to receive updates on whether the building will be open tomorrow.
The Department of Justice, also on Constitution Avenue, closed too, officials from the federal Office of Personnel Management said.
OPM also reported that the Commerce building was experiencing power outages and was closed this morning.
