The Ninny State

by @ 12:43 pm on July 13, 2006.

The Federal Communications Commission has apparently found its true calling, protecting all of us from the dirty words people say at sporting events.

WASHINGTON (Hollywood Reporter) - In its continuing crackdown on on-air profanity, the FCC has requested numerous tapes from broadcasters that might include vulgar remarks from unruly spectators, coaches and athletes at live sporting events, industry sources said.

Tapes requested by the commission include live broadcasts of football games and NASCAR races where the participants or the crowds let loose with an expletive. While commission officials refused to talk about its requests, one broadcast company executive said the commission had asked for 30 tapes of live sports and news programs.

All of this is happening, of course, because there are some politically connected ninnys out there who convinced President Bush to staff the FCC with people who would spend their time routing out true threats to the Republic like Janet Jackson’s breasts. These are the same type of people who think there’s a market for santized versions of Hollywood movies with the profanity, nudity, violence, and sex deleted.

If that’s the way they want to live their life, fine, more power to `em. But stop using the government to force me to live in the same santizied, Pleasantville existence you do.

Glad to hear it. After all, I’m sometimes known to let loose with an expletive now and again, and I really think it’s been random words I’ve heard from crowds at sporting events that are the cause. I’m glad they’re protecting me from such corruption of spirity.

    Thanks, Dubya!
