The Ohio State Buckeyes started out their 2006 season with a decisive win over Northern Illinois (who ?):
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Top-ranked Ohio State showed off its speed against overmatched Northern Illinois on Saturday. It’s not likely the Buckeyes will have such an easy time outrunning their next opponent.
Troy Smith tossed touchdown passes of 5 and 58 yards to Ted Ginn Jr. on the first two possessions as the Buckeyes geared up for next week’s showdown at Texas with a 35-12 victory.
Tailbacks Antonio Pittman and acclaimed freshman Chris Wells also ran for scores as Ohio State started the season ranked No. 1 for the first time since 1998.
“I’d like to think we can be explosive,” Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said. “We took a step — now, the next step is higher, we understand that — but we took a step.”
How high is the next step? Well, the No. 3 Longhorns started their season Saturday with a 56-7 win over North Texas.
Yes, well, I think the Longhorns will find that Ohio Stae is no North Texas.

Unfortunately, our beloved Buckeyes also stumbled a bit. The defense was a bit porous (although NIU’s running back was pretty spectacular, I have to admit).
And, in typical Tressel-ball fashion, after they ran up the score a bit, they started to stumble.
Here’s a great idea: put in Justin Time to fumble on his first play from scrimmage. Very RARE for a coach to change quarterbacks mid-drive. Tressel should have left #10 in for a few more plays, ran up the score a bit more, then let Zwick and the second stringers have their recess time.
GO BUCKS!

Trust me, no one here is laboring under that misunderestimation.

I can’t wait for the game on Saturday. Northern Illinois is an okay team. They are picked to win the MAC and are probably a better team than North Texas. I’m feeling good about the Bucks chances.
