He may have played a swashbuckling Starship Captain on television, but William Shatner has no interest in going into space himself:
He explored the heavens in “Star Trek,” but actor William Shatner has turned down an offer from Britain’s Sir Richard Branson to take a real space flight.
The (London) Sun reported that the Emmy-winning actor has refused Branson’s offer of a ticket on Virgin Galactic’s first passenger flight into space, citing possible nausea and death as key elements behind his decision.
“I’m interested in man’s march into the unknown but to vomit in space is not my idea of a good time,” the 75-year-old actor said. “Neither is a fiery crash with the vomit hovering over me.”
Shatner has said he would like to take the flight, he but only if Branson pays him to do so and guarantees his safety. The paper said celebrities such as Sigourney Weaver have already purchased their $215,000 tickets for the initial flight of the VSS Enterprise, named in honor of the infamous “Star Trek” vessel. The mission is scheduled to take flight in 2008.
No wonder I always liked Jean Luc-Picard better.
