Howling Latina, a leftist blogger from Virginia, makes this rather astonishing comment about the execution of Saddam Hussein:
Howling Latina wept as she saw a picture of Saddam Hussein next to the rope that would soon end his life, as posted earlier this evening on the Web site of a national newspaper and thankfully taken down.
Tell me, Howling Latina, did you also weep when Saddam was murdering his own countrymen at whim, gassing Kurds who dared to assert their independence, or invading an independent nation ? Something tells me you weren’t.
Here’s the truth. Saddam was an evil bastard who deserved what he got. If you don’t recognize that, or refuse to acknowledge the fact that he spent nearly 30 years violating the human rights of countless numbers of Iraqis, then I’m not quite sure you’re worthy of engaging in serious debate.
Update: In contrast to those in America weeping over the death of a tyrant, the words of the blogger Mohammed at Iraq The Model sum reality up quite nicely:
He deserved to die?our people are still suffering from his crimes till this moment, maybe not in person anymore but through the murderous terrorist machine he built and expanded over years; his orphans are still murdering our people in cold blood trying to deny us the right to build a model of life away from the culture of death the dictator created.
Executing Saddam is an execution to a dark era in Iraq’s history and it’s a message to all those who followed his ways that there is no turning back; yes, the people will never kneel to a tyrant again and will never give up.
The future is in the hands of the people and they will choose their way no matter how big the sacrifice is.
We have suffered too much for too long and we deserve a better life and that we will keep pursuing.
On this day as we celebrate justice we shall not forget to pray for blessings for the souls of the dictator’s victims and we shall not forget to thank our brothers in America and the rest of the coalition nations who helped us and are still helping us in our struggle to build the new free and democratic Iraq
It’s easy to sit back and theorize over morality when you’re living in comfort. To the people Saddam victimized, there’s no weeping necessary.

And when the Iraqi state, under Saddam, murdered tens of thousands of its own citizens, your reaction was ???????

Applying the American Death Penalty debate to this is mental masturbation.
