Yesterday, Kellie and I went to see We Are Marshall, which tells the story of the aftermath of the November, 1970 plane crash that killed the Marshall University football team, it’s coaches, and many fans. I had been interested in seeing this movie since I saw the first trailer several months ago. It seemed like an interesting story to begin with and, though I’d seen Marshall play Ohio State back in 2004, I never knew this story about the team or why their fans are so dedicated to them.
Matthew McConaughey plays Jack Lengyl, the coach who came in to rebuild a shattered football program that was nearly ended altogether after the tragedy and how that team became a rallying point for the school and the entire town of Huntington, West Virginia.
It’s a feel good movie for sure, but one well-worth seeing on the big screen.
