Rick Moran recaps Monday’s two-hour episode of 24.
There are some out there who are critical of the way Season Six has gone so far.
Principally, there’s the allegation that Surnow et al are recylcing plots from previous seasons. After all, didn’t we have a nuclear bomb threaten Los Angeles in Season Two ? And Arab terrorists in Season Four ? Wasn’t there a plot against the President in Season Two as well ? And a secret cabal pulling the strings from behind in Season Five ?
All of this is true, but the differences this time are significant. First of all, the emotional impact of exploding a nuclear bomb in an American city far outweighs the explosion in the desert in Season Two — although I do find it strange that the events of Season Two haven’t even been mentioned once by any of the characters. Second, the plot against President Wayne Palmer that seemed to be developing during Monday’s episode seems different than the removal-from-office scenario that unfolded in Season Two (personally, I hated that plot line because the writers completely ignored the actual text of the 25th Amendment for dramatic impact). These people seem to be clearly talking about killing a President, not just removing him from office by Constitutional means. As for the conspiracies, this is 24, there is always a conspiracy, the trick is figuring out which one really matters.
For me, this has been one of the most exciting seasons so far, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
