New details emerged today about the massacre at Virginia Tech:
BLACKSBURG, Va. — The massacre inside a chained-shut Norris Hall went on for nine minutes as Seung-Hui Cho fired off 170 rounds, killing 30 people before shooting himself in the head, police revealed Wednesday. But they said investigators still don’t know why Cho launched the bloody attack on his fellow students at Virginia Tech.
“We talk about possible motives and theories and whatnot, but we don’t have any evidence to suggest anything,” said State Police Superintendent Col. W. Steven Flaherty.
He said investigators had searched computer files, cell phone records and e-mails, and had compiled 500 piece of evidence from Norris Hall alone.
Yet so far, nothing indicated a motive or close link between the 23-year-old loner and his victims, Flaherty said.
Two hours before Cho chained shut three public entrances to Norris Hall and started his rampage there, he gunned down his first two victims in a dormitory across campus. In between, a package was mailed to NBC containing Cho’s videotaped tirade and written manifesto about rich “brats” and their “hedonistic needs.”
Flaherty, who is overseeing the investigative team looking at the shootings, said police have been unable to answer one of the case’s most vexing questions: Why the spree began at the West Ambler Johnston dormitory, and why 18-year-old freshman Emily Hilscher was the first victim.
Does it really matter ? Cho made his motives, as sick and twisted as they were, clear in the video manifesto that NBC so graciously broadcast worldwide for him.

The answers to the question you seek. Between all that is holy, good, and godly, and which is God, and that, which is darkness, evil, and ungodly, which is the realm of Satan. People want not to look at this but it is true, and because it is between holy and evil, more things will happen in our society and more uglier things will be caused by those who have no Life in them. Why are you so surprized. All over our world, worst things than this have been going on and very few people care and look the other way. No one really weeps. No one really feels sorrow. No one actually cares, and if so, only for a very little while, and then it is back again to using the Lords name in vain, justifing lying, stealing, killing the unborn, allowing murders to go free, allowing children to be raped and killed, and used for man’s pleasures. Women do not consider themselves special. For a few dollars they sell themselves in so many unholy ways. Men do not value women: their grandmother’s, mother’s, their sister’s, their aunt’s, their cousin’s, and are willing to sell, kill, hurt defile them for so little or nothering at all. Why weep? Hollywood is your God and those who do so many unspeakable things and you watch and laugh, and then are you so suprized when real things are done to you? More things of this nature will happen. Now is the beginning of sorrows. In Jesus’ name, all things will be according to God’s will, and those of you who do not believe will endure many things in this world, and much more in the Last Days, and in the hell that awaits you. How sad, you choose a lie for the Truth. Why do you weep?
