Jimmy Carter Backtracks

by @ 1:01 pm on May 21, 2007.

Former President Carter appeared on the Today show this morning and attempted to back down from the comments he made yesterday regarding the Bush Administration:

ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) — Former President Jimmy Carter said Monday his remarks were “careless or misinterpreted” when he said the Bush administration has been the “worst in history” for its impact around the world.

Speaking on NBC’s “Today,” Carter appeared to retreat from a statement he made to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for a Saturday story in which he said: “I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history.”

Carter said Monday that when he made the comment, he was responding to a question comparing the Bush administration’s foreign policy to that of Richard Nixon.

“And I think Richard Nixon had a very good and productive foreign policy and my remarks were maybe careless or misinterpreted. But I wasn’t comparing the overall administration and I was certainly not talking personally about any president,”

The only problem is that this explanation isn’t exactly consistent with what Carter actually said:

“I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history,” Carter said. “The overt reversal of America’s basic values as expressed by previous administrations . . . has been the most disturbing to me.”

Nope, no mention of Nixon there.

Carter should look inward. Some of us consider his administration the worst in this century and with all his recent comments is obvious he is getting on in years. He should just fade with the sunset.

“No, no, no…. What I said wasn’t actually what you have on tape. Not at all. I didn’t mean to say what I actually said, I didn’t actually say it, and it’s your fault if you misinterpreted what I actually said to mean what it actually means.”

    Gimmie a break…

Jimmy Carter made a great comment, and this is the most disgraceful era of American existence. Well said Jimmy.

JIMMY CARTER SHOULD BE THE LAST PRESIDENT TO EVER SAY GEORGE BUSH AND HIS ADMINISTRATION IS OUR WORST EVER. HE NEEDS TO BACKTRACK AND REVIEW HOW HORRIBLE A PRESIDENT HE WAS AND TRIED TO MAKE US ALL FEEL LIKE WE WISHED WE WERE NOT AMERICANS. THANK GOD, OUR BELOVED, ONE OF THE BEST PRESIDENTS, RONALD REAGAN, CAME AND SAVED US AND THE COUNTRY FROM JIMMY CARTER. AND THANKING GOD AGAIN, HE SAVED US FROM HAVING THE RIDICULOUS AL GORE TRY TO LEAD OUR GREAT NATION!

With all due respect to President Carter, I think His opinion of the Bush Administration should be kept to himself. I think he forgot that his Adminastration with Congress went down as the Do Nothing Adminstration in Americas history.
His blunder to attempt to free the Iran hostages, after a few hundred days, was with the cost of several Marines lifes, I’m sure he doesn’t want to bring those issues up again. Go back to bed Jimmy !

Jimmy Carter’s policies put mortgage rates at 18%, and I really felt bad for younger friends because ours was 5 1/2 % obtained just before his term in office. He sold out, gave away, the Panama CANAL, AND

  7. Mae Dunmire Says:

Wimpy Pres. Carter was a joke around the world; he stood up to nobody, wanting a “NOBEL PEACE PRIZE.” And soon after he was in office, mortgage rates went to 18%. He couldn’t take care of things here at home, either. He does better pounding nails in houses at Habitat for Humanity, which many people consider a Communist-type organization. Policy should be: “If you can’t say something good about your country, keep your mouth shut! or you are damaging your own country.”
And who can trust someone who would willingly damage their own country???
