Consider This

Some observations on the Yankees in mid-June:

As the Yankees prepare for the Mets on Friday night, consider these numbers?

? The Yankees? 9-game winning streak is the longest by any team in the majors this season. The Yankees had 9 wins in all of April.

? During the streak, Alex Rodriguez has 21 runs batted in. He has 68 R.B.I. overall this season, to go with 25 homers. Last year, he reached 68 R.B.I. on July 16 and 25 homers on (get ready) August 13.

? Bobby Abreu has hit safely in all 13 games in June, with a .440 average and 12 walks.

? The bullpen is 3-0 with three saves and a 1.66 earned run average during the winning streak.

? Andy Pettitte (who turns 35 on Friday, just like the former Yankee Ramiro Mendoza) has a 4-4 record but a 2.93 ERA that ranks first among A.L. left-handers.

? No stats here, it?s just fun to set the stage: Roger Clemens faces the Mets at Yankee Stadium on Friday. ?The whole Mets thing is going to be crazy, like it always is,? Manager Joe Torre said. ?Roger just adds to it.?

So much for the lost season.

GREAT run and the AL East is now looking like it might get a whole lot more interesting. Just needed to be healthy and find their rythem. Go Yankees!
