Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Bill Gates’s spot as richest man in the world has been taken, by a Mexican:

Microsoft founder Bill Gates looks to have lost his title as the world’s richest man, toppled from top spot by the Mexican telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim.

Three months ago the cigar-chomping Mr Slim quietly slipped past legendary US investor Warren Buffett to take second place in the global wealth league.

Now, thanks to a surge in the shares of his America Movil group, Mr Slim has claimed pole position, according to the Mexican online financial publication, Sentido Común.

It’s all the fault of those immigrants I tell you. One day they are taking away jobs from construction workers, the next they’re replacing our billionaires.

Someone will replace Slim soon, nobody can hold on for a long time. “It’s all the fault of those immigrants I tell you. One day they are taking away jobs from construction workers, the next they’re replacing our billionaires.” Everyone is an immigrant except the native indians.

  2. Tom Brokaw says:

@mike – uhh I think that the ‘native indians’ came from somewhere else which means your full of total crap. And sure we shouldn’t actually worry about people who are breaking our laws. (i.e. the ‘poor’ and ILLEGAL immigrants)

  3. Tom Brokaw says:

p.s. and yes I am native to the country, my ancestors built this great nation. And no I am not ‘native indian’, way to try and pass the neo-liberal BS around though, good try.

  4. Monster says:

Nice diatribe, but it has nothing to do with the article. Carlos Slim is a Mexican citizen, not an American immigrant.

  5. Dude,

    It was a joke. Chill

  6. Tom, by your logic, everybody came from somewhere else, if you go back far enough. And that’s a bit silly, don’t you think?

  7. Andrew says:

Stop complain…. before you complain, just think “why can’t I do the same job for the same wage”. If you are ready to do that for the same… then these illegal immigrants won’t dare to enter this country. Do they?, you choose to manage people, even though you are a high school drop out, and outsourced those jobs under you to better educated people for your profit. Just think they are better educated means intelligent than you… Of course they will over pass you now or later… its inevitable.
So don’t complain, try to build this country again… try to join them make them americans just like how it happened to youin the past, elect intellectual people… so they can take decissions which will make this country a super power.
What else I can say, you guys know all this… Don’t you???

Hey Mike, your comment is not only ignorant, but also stupid. Read more, it might help you with those racist and stupid comments.

    Dear Mr. Brokaw,

I am writing today to tell you that although I am truly impressed by your unsubstantiated claim that your predecessors are to thank for the beautiful country we have today, I must inform you that your lack of attention to common grammar and inability to convey a logical thought nullify your argument. Thank you for your time.

Okay, who’s an American and who’s not? That seems to be a valid question. 1): The Native Aboriginal People didn’t call this place America, so I guess they’re not really Americans. They’re generally just “The People”. But they are the humans with the oldest claim to this land. I’m only part American Indian, though, so I don’t want to make this the only requirement for “Americanism” 2): So that leaves the Constitution, which says anyone born in America, or anyone who is naturalized as a citizen, or anyone born to American parents. There, that was easy.

As to China having enough power: Dude, they have it. They choose not to use it because they are challenging everyone Economically. They don’t need military victory or imperialism to be the victors. They just need to have a better and more vibrant economy than us.

The top 1% in Mexico own practically all the wealth. If
things keep going like they are, the U.S.A. will become ‘Northern Mexico’. Ridiculous to say Mexicans are coming up here to take jobs I don’t want. Pay me enough, and I’ll do about anything. Can’t blame them though, our ‘leaders’ (Bush & Co.) are making sure only a few select people will have all the money. Then the best job in the U.S.A. will be at Wallmart selling Chinese stuff for minimum wage, which will become max pay for the masses.
