Roy Pearson Asks Judge To Reconsider Pants Decision

by @ 3:16 pm on July 11, 2007.

As I wrote yesterday, Roy Pearson has filed papers in the D.C. Superior Court asking Judge Judith Bartnoff to reconsider her decision in his absurd little lawsuit:

Roy Pearson isn’t giving up his legal battle against the dry cleaning business he claims lost his pants. Today he asked the judge who ruled against him to reconsider his $54 million lawsuit.

Pearson filed court papers urging D.C. Superior Court Judge Judith Bartnoff to take another look at his case against Custom Cleaners. Bartnoff rejected the claims in a ruling June 25, saying Pearson had not shown that the Northeast Washington shop violated the city’s consumer protection laws.

Pearson’s filing said that Bartnoff should have placed more significance on the “Satisfaction Guaranteed” sign that had been posted at the store. The business’s owners, Soo and Jin Chung, are asking Bartnoff to order Pearson to pay $83,000 in their legal fees.

Pearson, an administrative law judge, can still take the matter to the D.C. Court of Appeals.

And knowing this guy, he probably will.

Pearson needs to pursue the $54 million because he knows, after this circus act, that no legitimate employer will ever hire him again. He’s hoping the fruits of this lawsuit will be his retirement legacy.

    Rick,

I’m not so sure. After all, this is the District of Columbia we’re talking about here.

  3. Edgar Heiskell Says:

Pearson could only be a “judge” in a banana republic like D.C., where the schools are a disaster, the police can’t solve crimes, violence punctuates each night, the Metro system is falling apart, and Marion Barry’s patronage system still cripples the District government’s ability to provide basic services. Pearson is a poster child for those of us who believe that there should be no “home rule” for our Nation’s Capital. Congress and federal authorities need to exert more, not less, control over this lawless city.
