Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Let The Games Begin

Tonight at Jacobs Field in Cleveland that is:

Where: Jacobs Field.

TV/radio: WKYC Channel 3 tonight and Sunday, SportsTime Ohio on Saturday; WTAM AM/1100.

Pitching matchups: RHP Fausto Carmona (13-6, 3.17 ERA) vs. RHP Philip Hughes (1-1, 5.87) at 7:05 p.m. tonight; RHP Paul Byrd (10-4, 4.13) vs. RHP Mike Mussina (7-7, 4.66) at 7:05 p.m. Saturday; and RHP Jake Westbrook (3-6, 5.00) vs. LHP Andy Pettitte (8-7, 4.00) at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.

Season series: Yankees lead, 3-0. New York leads overall, 1,054-837.

Indians update: They went into Thursday night’s game with a 12-14 record since the All-Star break, scoring three or fewer runs 12 times. The Yankees outscored them in a three-game sweep in April, 27-11.

Yankees update: They’re 21-8 since the All-Star break. They’ve scored 214 runs, an average of 7.4 runs per game, in 29 games since the break. Alex Rodriguez had four hits in the Yankees’ sweep of the Tribe, three of them homers.

Injuries: Indians — Outfielder David Dellucci (left hamstring) is on the disabled list. Designated hitter Travis Hafner (left knee) is day to day. Yankees — First baseman Doug Mientkiewicz (right wrist), and pitchers Carl Pavano (right elbow) and Humberto Sanchez (right elbow) are on the DL. Rodriguez (right shin) is day to day.

The stakes are pretty high because the Yankees and Indians are within a game of each other in the wild-card race.

They’re also pretty high because I’ve got a little bet going with Kellie’s Dad.

Go Yanks !
