So, 13 years later, how many dead Americans is Saddam worth ?
I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

September 11th opened a lot of eyes. While Saddam was not responsible for that day, he was responsible for the deaths of many Iranians, Kuwaitis, Iraqis, and Americans, WMDs or no WMDs. And now, we face the threat of terror in Iraq, something which we cannot ignore and cannot run away from. Dead American soldiers are a tragedy, but ask any of them which they would prefer, I’d bet my life that they will say they’d rather lose their lives fighting for ours than to see even one civilian die in another terror attack on American soil.
Thirteen years is a long time; Dick Cheney had to be in the center of one of the worst atrocities man has ever viewed, and I do not think anyone could say they would not be changed by such an event. As an example to the contrary, when John Kerry was criticized for being a flip-flopper, he could be seen constantly countering things he said just days before, with nothing happening in between events that would suggest his views should change.
The biggest mistake that was made was not entering Baghdad in the Gulf War in 1991; by going then, we could’ve saved ourselves a lot of grief and trouble. Going in 2003, we were hoping to finish the job. And I’d be willing to bet that Dick Cheney would tell you so himself if you could personally pose that question to him.

CR,
The irony of Cheney’s comments is two-fold.
First, you are right. Bush 41, Colin Powell, and Dick Cheney were all wrong to stop Gulf War I when they did. Moreover, they were doubly wrong to sit on the sidelines and watch as Saddam massacred the rebels in the South and the Kurds in the North a mere six months after that war ended.
Second, everything he said might go wrong with an occupation of Baghdad in the 90’s came true thanks to a poorly executed, under manned, politically bungled, war plan in 2003.
