Ronald Reagan On George W. Bush

by @ 6:34 pm on August 20, 2007.

From his diary dated May 17, 1986:

‘A moment I’ve been dreading. George brought his ne’re-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida. The one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I’ll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they’ll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work.’

Heh

Update: Apparently, not so Heh after all. The quote is a fake.

[...] Obviously, I should have done that before posting this provocative post about President Reagan’s supposed opinion of a then much younger George … [...]

So where did Mataconis get such specific information for his original quote of what Reagan reputedly said about George W. Bush?

Could it have been on another pg. other than 411 of the Reagan Diaries, and Mataconis got the dates confused?

The language, if you’d bothered to follow the link, came from another blog. I made the mistake of not fact-checking.

The fact of the matter is that there isn’t a single reference to George W. Bush in the published Reagan diaries. Don’t believe me ? Check the index.
