Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Yankees vs. Tribe: Divided Loyalties

by @ 11:22 am on October 4, 2007.

An amusing story from the LoHud Journal:

MAHOPAC - A prodigious Chief Wahoo is plastered on the wall directly across from an oversized Yankees logo in the basement rec room Pete Mancinelli and Michelle D’Agostino have devoted entirely to a shared love for the game of baseball.

The space is well stocked with everything from autographed balls to etched crystal. And should feelings get hurt when passions collide in the ALDS tonight, there’s a comfortable futon in the back corner.

“Nah, it would never get to that,” said a laughing Mancinelli, a faithful Cleveland Indians fanatic who last month overlooked the contempt he’s been harboring since the 1998 ALCS and proposed to D’Agostino, a devoted Yankees fan. “It’s not going to keep me from sleeping in my own bed.”

Even so, a couple of ground rules are being contemplated.

“I think we need to make a pact,” D’Agostino said. “Once the TV goes off, that’s it. Done.”

No matter how things play out, they plan to be married on June 28.

They’ve already been to five of the six games between the Indians and Yankees this season, so the love has been tested.

“I believe the Yankees swept,” D’Agostino said with a grin.

As my in-laws in Cleveland could attest, yes the Yankees did sweep ;)

And, yes, we’ve got a wager going for the series.

Am I worried ? Just ask Alex, Derek, Mariano, and Joba.
