Romney, Huckabee Nearly Tie In Value Voters Straw Poll

by @ 3:49 pm on October 20, 2007.

Mitt Romney may have gotten the most votes in the Value Voters Summit Straw Poll, but the real story is the fact that he barely beat Mike Huckabee:

Here are the straw poll results from the Values Voter summit.

1. Romney 1,595
2. Huckabee 1,565
3. Ron Paul 865
4. Fred Thompson 564

There were 5,776 votes cast but only 2,500 people at the summit. The
discrepancy comes from Internet votes. Anyone who was a member of
Family Research Council Action, which only requires a minimum donation
of $1, was allowed to vote.

As with most of these straw polls, the results mean virtually nothing, but it does show that Huckabee has a shot to become a first tier candidate.

Zogby International released the results of an online survey today that show half of likely voters nationwide said they would never vote for New York Sen. Hillary Clinton for president.

At the other end of the scale, only one candidate — Democrat Bill Richardson — faired better than Republican Mike Huckabee.
