Ohio State, Boston College Stay At Top Of AP, USA Today Polls

by @ 6:04 pm on October 28, 2007.

At least at the top, this week’s college football polls aren’t much of a surprise. Ohio State and Boston College both won, and they both stayed at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively in the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches Polls.

But while there wasn’t much change at the top, there was plenty of change at the bottom:

The remainder of the media poll received a major shake-up, with five teams falling out and Connecticut moving into the ranking for the first time in school history.

The Big East-leading Huskies, who became a full-fledged member of Division I-A in 2002, were No. 16 after beating South Florida 22-15 on Saturday. Division I-A is now called the Bowl Subdivision.

As for the coaches’ poll, Connecticut made its first appearance in program history, debuting at No. 20 after upending then-No. 12 South Florida to remain unbeaten in Big East play. No. 22 Boise State and No. 24 Clemson returned to the rankings this week. Dropping out were Virginia, California and Penn State.

Connecticut travels to Piscataway to play Rutgers on Saturday and suddenly doesn’t look like an underdog.

Update: And, the Bowl Championship Series Rankings are about where they should be as well. Ohio State, Boston College, LSU,  Arizona State, and Oregon make up the Top 5. Of those, however, only the Buckeyes, Boston College, and Arizona State remain undefeated.
