Apparently, there will be a sequel to The X-Files movie after all:
After years of David Duchovny talking about the sequel, and almost 10 years after the first feature, 20th Century is finally ready to start production on The X Files 2 with the actor in place to reprise his role of Special Agent Fox Mulder. Gillian Anderson is also expected to be back on board to play Special Agent Dana Scully.
Shooting is scheduled to begin on December 10 in Vancouver under the direction of series creator Chris Carter. Carter and Frank Spotnitz wrote the script.
The studio is referring to the film in casting breakdowns as “Done One.”
The popular series ran on Fox from 1993 to 2002. Rob Bowman directed the first feature, which hit theaters on June 19, 1998.
It seems more than a bit off to me that they’d be doing this nearly ten years after the movie debuted, and five years after the series went off the air. I mean, I was a fan but do people really care about the show enough to go see a movie in 2008 or 2009 ?

I’ll go see it. Of course, I have all 9 seasons on DVD plus the movie.
I think if it is a good enough story, like the early seasons told where Mulder and Scully were pretty much just the tools by which the story itself was told, then it can be successful. I’m glad to see that the movie will be filmed in Vancouver where the show had some of its finest seasons.
