Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Light Dusting Of Snow Paralyzes Capital Of Free World…..Again

by @ 9:35 am on December 6, 2007.

When I lived in New Jersey a snow storm like this was brushed off as nothing to worry about. In Northern Virginia in 2007, it’s enough to bring the region to it’s knees:

Most area schools were opening two hours late this morning as the region coped with the season’s first snowfall and braced for another potentially wicked commute.

Freezing temperatures overnight left icy spots throughout the area, a day after motorists suffered through a rude reintroduction to winter. Temperatures were in the mid-20s as the rush hour approached.

Public schools in the District, where warmer road temperatures helped keep streets free of ice, were to open on time.

In Maryland, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Howard, Charles, Calvert and Anne Arundel counties in Maryland all gave students an extra two hours to navigate their way to class. In Virginia, schools in Fairfax, Loudoun and Arlington counties in Virginia, and Alexandria, Manassas and Falls Church city schools were also opening two hours late.

Prince William County schools were closed for the day.

Many private schools in the suburbs and the city also announced delays of an hour or two.

Federal government agencies were open but unscheduled leave policies were in effect.

The storm scattered the region with varied amounts of snow — a dusting in some areas; several inches in others.

Memo to al Qaeda: Forget about nuclear weapons, just get a bunch of snow making machines and come to Northern Virginia.
