Below The Beltway

I believe in the free speech that liberals used to believe in, the economic freedom that conservatives used to believe in, and the personal freedom that America used to believe in.

Huckamania Spreads To South Carolina

by @ 10:55 am on December 10, 2007.

The former Arkansas Governor has taken the lead in the South Carolina Republican Primary:

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) — Mike Huckabee has capitalized on his Iowa surge and roared to the front of the Republican pack in South Carolina, largely on the strength of social conservatives frustrated with the crop of candidates.

“We’ve been on the stove simmering for about 11 months,” Huckabee said at a Saturday rally in Greenville. “Somehow in the last two weeks, the lid blew off and the pot started boiling.”

A month ago, Huckabee was fifth in South Carolina polls. Now, according to a new Mason-Dixon poll conducted in the state, Huckabee comes in at 20 percent, putting him in first place with a narrow lead over former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who has 17 percent.

They are followed by former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney at 15 percent, former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee at 14 percent and Sen. John McCain of Arizona at 10 percent.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, a diehard McCain supporter, predicted the political wave last week, telling reporters in Washington, “What you see nationally with Huckabee is happening in South Carolina.”

So it would appear.

Iowa and SC are not representative of anything other than Iowa and SC. Huck will be a rather unpleasant memory after the New Year.

Just another Fred Thompson: a media-inflated candiacy with no cash and a ton of baggage that is coming to light. Stay tuned Dec 16 when the REAL candidate, Dr. Paul, has a Tea Party and shows the Huckster to be what he is: a pretender of a preacher screecher creature.

It’s obvious that the media wants Huckabee to win this race. I wonder why? Could it be that they know he will have no chance at defeating Clinton or who ever the democratic nominee is. I hope that the people in Iowa and SC don’t keep falling for this media push. Huckabee seems like a great gut, but only Guiliani or Romney will have the power and organization to defeat the democratic nominee!!!

Someone explain why Huck? If you want a liberal republican is Rudy a better choice. If you want a true conservative, he’s not even close. Try Thompson or Romney.

  5. Kevin Says:

    Sean,

Huckabee is an evangelical Christian “compassionate conservative”. The Republican party has lot of voters in that demographic and they were looking for a candidate. Huckabee fills the ticket.
