Hillary, You’re No Iron Lady

by @ 5:32 pm on January 7, 2008.

You’ve gotta know that Hillary is getting desperate when she starts comparing herself to Margaret Thatcher:

Clinton has been pretty explicit about the historic nature of electing a woman president lately, and today she brought up Margaret Thatcher, in response to a question about global warming.

“Guess who stepped to the plate in 1990. Margaret Thatcher,” she said of Thatcher’s early leadership on the issue, adding that the Iron Lady “happens to be a woman.”

“We had one leader — I don’t know how likable she was — we had one leader who made it a priority and got the job done,” she said of Thatcher.

Thatcher’s isn’t exactly the image the campaign, which has aimed to warm up Clinton lately, has sought, but it wasn’t the only time she went out of her way to stress gender. In response to a question about cowboy diplomacy, she noted that she would be a “cowgirl.”

Andrew Sullivan sums up the absurdity of this analogy quite nicely:

Thatcher never used her husband to climb up the greasy pole. From very modest beginnings, she got a chemistry degree and a law degree at a time when most women were home-makers. She was never the party establishment - always the insurgent. She spent her career telling people to look after themselves, not that she would take care of them with coddling government help. And she was a real feminist, the kind of woman leader who would never deploy the gender card to get her elected. Compared to Thatcher, Clinton is a political footnote.

Notice Hillary’s not comparing herself to Nancy Pelosi ?

“Compared to Thatcher, Clinton is a political footnote.” Bravo, well said. Hillary Clinton’s endless pandering, cajoling, and wheedling are truly nauseating. Has there ever been, with the possible exception of Bubba, a more self-serving individual on the face of the planet? Phony baloney, vicious to boot. Plus, we‘ve already suffered their co-presidency, for eight years. That fluke was brought about courtesy Ross Perot, certainly not any mandate by the American people. Well, the soap continues with the “first black president” calling the would-be actual first black president “a fairy tale,” proving all the pollsters wrong (yeah, right), as Hillary magically takes New Hampshire. Oh look, the laws of gravity have once again been suspended: http://theseedsof9-11.com
