Signs Of Trouble For Giuliani

by @ 5:38 am on January 12, 2008.

It seems that some of Rudy Giuliani’s top campaign workers are going to be working for free:

MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina (CNN) — CNN has learned that top staff members of Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign were asked to work without pay for the month of January, and perhaps longer, so that campaign resources could be focused on the Florida Republican presidential primary.

Two sources in the campaign, speaking on condition of anonymity, insisted the campaign was not in dire financial straits. A third campaign source, however, said “things are starting to get tight” and that “it was more telling than asking” the senior staff to forgo paychecks beginning the first of the year.

There was a time when Rudy Giuliani had a campaign war chest that seemed bottomless. That time is apparently over.

And Marc Ambinder reports that Giuliani has lost his national finance chair:

It’s not a good sign that Giuliani’s senior staff have decided to work without paychecks, and there is no way to spin it otherwise. The amount of money that’s involved is miniscule: about $50,000 per month.

So the campaign must really have a cash on hand problem. Breaking News: Giuliani’s national finance chair, Roy Bailey, no longer has that position with the campaign. Bailey was not only Giuliani’s finance chair, he was one of the founding partners of Giuliani’s consulting firm.

Today I will attend the event welcoming Rudy Giuliani to Bradenton Florida. I intend to support Mayor Giuliani throughout this campaign until he has received the title of President of the United States.

My sincere hope is that Bradenton Florida becomes the front runner for ‘positive’ reporting by the press. And further, I am hopeful that Bradenton can be a front runner once again in financial contributions made to the Rudy Giuliani campaign. Joining together, the Rudy Giuliani supporters in Bradenton Florida can make a differnce to the outcome of this campaign. It’s right there, don’t let it slip through your fingers! My hope is the Bradenton supports will step up and put this campaign on a positive track, with the end result being that Rudy can do his job, campaign, and become President of the United States of America.

With Rudy Giuliani as President, we can get ‘our America’ back. God Bless America!

First of all, it’s not unknown for campaign staffers to say they’re going without pay as a ploy to raise money. The media spin on this simple thing (generated by an email sent out by the campaign) is preposterous! Next - if I hear one more person say that “all” Rudy talks about is 9/11, I think I’m going to scream. For those of us who were in NYC on that day, we all thanked God that Rudy was there to lead us out of the darkness. For those who weren’t there, how dare you make light of an event that claimed the lives of 3,000 Americans? If “all” Rudy ever did was this one incredible thing - well, as someone who lived through it, that’s enough for me. The fact is, however, Rudy spends the vast majority of his time talking about how he can turn Washington around the same way he turned NYC around. Rudy was a Republican in a liberal democratic city, but he managed to turn a “failed” city back into “the greatest City in the world.” Rudy is a true American hero, and he will ALWAYS have my vote.
