McCain Grabs Major Florida Endorsement

by @ 7:09 am on January 27, 2008.

In a move that is likely to help his campaign, John McCain has received the endorsement of Florida’s popular Republican Governor:

Even as the political class was digesting the news of Sen. Barack Obama’s (Ill.) overwhelming victory in South Carolina’s Democratic primary, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) scored the endorsement of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (R) — a major development in advance of the Sunshine State’s Tuesday primary.

“I don’t know anybody would do better than the man who stands next to me — Senator John McCain,” said Crist at a campaign rally in Pinellas County. “That’s an endorsement.”

McCain called it an “honor and privilege” to win the endorsement of the popular Crist.

And, meanwhile, left standing at the altar is jilted bride Rudy Giuliani:

Boca Raton, FL — As the campaign sees it’s poll numbers falling and braces for a possible loss in their must-win state Tuesday, Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s endorsement of John McCain is the latest disappointment and affront to Rudy Giuliani–who has pulled out all the stops to win over Sunshine State voters and secure the Gov’s blessing.

Up until the New Hampshire primary, Crist had privately pledged to endorse the former NYC mayor (as FOX previously reported) but switched allegiances to McCain in the last two weeks, Giuliani campaign aides tell Fox News.

(…)

Crist was set to speak at the Orange County (Orlando) Lincoln Day Dinner which also featured Giuliani Saturday night, but backed out earlier this week and changed his plans to appear at the Pinellas County (St. Petersburg) dinner with McCain.

During his speech Saturday night, Giuliani appeared deflated and many of his lines fell flat just hours after he appeared exuberant and energetic at a rally with supporters. The two events took place across the hall from eachother in the same hotel.

Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.
